Actually, DOA, CIA, FBI, IRS, AOL, TNT, HBO, AAA, WCW, NBA, NWO, NFL, ETC. . . and the like are more than just abbreviations. Many Stock Exchange symbols have three letters as well. Each one is a TLA – a three-letter acronym.
