A non inherient zero does not mean nothing, an inherient zero does mean nothing, but in all cases, zero is a non negative number.

Martin Radio – Why do celebrities die in threes? – Interview with Michael Eck

 Martin Radio interview

Listen to the interview

Martin Radio

Martin Radio is where sports and entertainment collide. The show is hosted by Veteran TV Sportscasters Martin Kilcoyne (FOX 2) Maurice Drummond (Fox 2) and Rich Gould (KPLR 11) and features the perfect blend of sports talk, entertainment and real life. Men wake up each morning to Martin and Mo or Rich’s dynamic sense of humor and unique takes on the world of sports. Plus, visits from the biggest local and national guests. The show also features “Celebrity Phone ins”, “He’s a Nothin” “Ask Tony”, “Martinsville” as well as “You Blew It”.

On July 8, 2009 I had a very fun interview with Maurice Drummond and Rich Gould for 590 The Fan KFNS (http://www.kfns.com/martinradio.aspx), a FOX affiliate. Look at the Rewind Section for the audio. They we’re hillarious. At the end they were talking about the Manchurian Candidate and being brainwashed by things in threes. I was great fun being interviewed by these guys.  Three Cheers for Martin Radio!

Three is the magic number – presentation by Michael Eck

Michael Eck

Michael Eck

Michael Eck, the author of the Book of Threes, delivered a Power Point Presentation at the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 2008 regarding the nature of concepts in threes. By looking at simplification, completion, and memory, he speaks about how these areas occur simultaneously.

Currently, the presentation is web enabled but is only viewable in Microsoft Internet Explorer (as it was exported from Power Point). The file location is The Book of Threes Video.

It is best viewed with a high speed connection. . .

Three interviews with Michael S. Eck regarding celebrity deaths in threes

Michael S Eck

Michael S Eck

As author, administrator and . . . I forget the third, of The Book of Threes at threes.com, I recently did three, that’s right . . ., three interviews on celebrity deaths in threes. Mostly people are interested in why deaths occur in threes.

After these interviews I came to the conclusion that putting deaths into a threeness is the way we master our own mortality. We reflect on these deaths and create a memory by clustering concepts into threes. It gives us a chance to complete our relationship with our celebrities and move on.

Fundamentally we use threes to simplify, complete, and create memory. For more on this, see this self timed Web Presentation on concepts in threes. Run the slideshow.

So here’s what happened beginning June 29, 2009:

 Three spheres

Welcome to The Book of Threes. Currently we have over 3000 posts on this site all related to concepts in threes. You don’t say. A little history. For about 30 years, Michael Eck has been thinking about threes. Things that come in threes. Now he combines that esoteric interest with his attachment to the Internet by creating what he hopes will be the book with the most authors ever (a lot more than three, anyway).

Light - RGB colors - additive

He suggests that in our minds we break concepts into three parts to understand whatever it is we are thinking about. We use threes to define systems. We use the third or middle point with regard to the extremes to define a point of view. Yada yada yada.

color wheel - subtractive
Color Wheel

The concept is simple. Just think of something that comes in threes, then go to this site and contribute it. For example: the colors on the American flag; Caesar’s most famous words, “Veni, vidi, vici” (“I came, I saw, I conquered”); the number of legs on each side of an insect.

Sounds Familiar Podcast – The Rule of Three

Sounds Familiar is a free podcast, now available on iTunes: http://bit.ly/IXTkaw

Is three really the magic number? Sometimes it seems like it. From three blind mice to sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll, things that come in threes just seem… right.

This time I’ll speak with Michael Eck, who has tracked down and documented things in threes for decades, about why threes are so common, so relatable, and so powerful.

Why Do We Believe That Catastrophes Come in Threes?

COMMENTARY
By JOHN ALLEN PAULOS

July 5, 2009

Michael Jackson's untimely death coupled with the deaths of Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett in the same week revived the belief of many that celebrity deaths, plane crashes and all manner of catastrophes come in threes. The persistence of this belief is difficult to explain since the case for it is so easily demolished.
